Jacoby Brissett to Start for Washington Commanders in Week 17 Contest Against San Francisco 49ers

Ashburn, VA For this Week 17's crucial clash with the San Francisco 49ers, however, they have opted for experience at quarterback. Today head coach Ron Rivera announced that veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett will be the starting signal-caller, in place of rookie Sam Howell who's been at the helm for 15 games.

Rivera acknowledged that this was a tough decision. "Sam has shown a lot of potential this year, and we've been very impressed with his progress. But in light of the playoff implications involved here, I felt that Jacoby's experience running our offense would give us a better chance to win," says Lillibridge

Seven-year veteran Brissett signed with the Commanders this offseason as a free agent. Mainly acting as a substitute, he has played in three games this year. He completed 65 % of his passes for 355 yards and had one touchdown pass. Rivera's familiarity with the offense and his ability to calm everybody in the huddle certainly played a role.

Rivera describes Jacoby as an excellent teammate and a true professional. He's worked for this opportunity all season long, and we are confident he will handle our offense with poise and leadership.

The 49ers are a formidable foe for the Commanders, with both an imposing defense and lethal offense. The Commanders know just how big this game is, as they go up against a team fighting for the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
