Michigan RB Kalel Mullings has been working on getting 'those house calls' this offseason
A Michigan backfield is going to be a little different in 2024 without someone like Blake Corum behind it. Corum has been a very important aspect of what the Wolverines do on the ground the last three seasons, but the Wolverines’ status this season will remain familiar to Michigan fans as Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings will be returning during this season. Mullings on the other hand has been as dominant as he has been given spotlight, so much so that Edwards has demonstrated what he can do under the limelight.

As the 2024 year approaches Edwards and Mullings are seen as the two best running backs and both will have a significantly larger role next year. The type of back that Edwards, a former five star recruit, is that big play back that can break the long runs or catch a pass and run it to the house. Mullings converted from a linebacker possesses a large body who can easily shed several tackles.
But with any player from the team of Michigan football nobody would be satisfied for what he or she has done in the past. Change and concentration are the driving forces when preparing for a new year and Mullings has been developing himself as a running back to assist the Wolverines this year. This football player in his fifth year of his college said that he was interviewed on the In Trenches Podcast and he discussed what he’s been working on for the season.
Mullings averaged 6 leading the running back room last year. 17 yards per carry. They multiplied into 36 carries for 222 yards where the half back added a touchdown to his gesture. Mullings, who carries some bulk, has been endeavoring to bust the long runs. He would like to have that included though remain with that big-framed body.
“Yeah, so for me, definitely, it’s been that last third of my runs,” Mullings said pointing to what he has been working on. “Being able to break the long ones, being mobile, being agile. That’s been my biggest area of focus and the biggest thing that kind of sets me apart. It’s kind of, for me, this off-season has been about finding that balance of being that big, powerful back,
Once in a while, it is possible for these teams to lose focus realizing that they are unbeaten and they have won the national championship. Still, it is with a very different feel given the high rate of player turnover with some going to the NFL or graduating that this Michigan team seems to have something to prove this 2024. Mullings said the main point heard has been that the Wolverines have remained focused winter and spring to fall. Mark believes that Michigan will get locked in this fall and will be in the right place to make huge plays in 2024.
“I think one of the things for us has been to keep and maintain that same focus we had and keep and maintain that same understanding that we had about everything that we are doing from the winter through the summer, into camp, now, and any mistake that is made now is dialed in through this summer, will continue to be dialed in this fall camp so next time we are in that position like last year, we can make those plays
Michigan is practicing in fall camp and will play its first game on the 31st of August against the Fresno State Bulldogs.
