The first of the preseason games will be on the 10th Of August when the Team will play the New York jets on the away games. This is one of the three games that Washington will be preparing Daniels for in the regular season. But Quinn failed to say whether Daniels is to start or not, what he only said is that he is going to be playing.
A second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Jayden Daniels is a quarterback Washington potentially aims to have in the long run. He has not been officially anointed the starter yet for the team, however, because the team will be entering the season with, in addition to Cephus, Jeff Driskel, Sam Hartman, and Marcus Mariota.
This comes just a week after the Chicago Bears decided that first overall pick and presumed starter Caleb Williams will not play in the teams first preseason game. However, as that was the Hall of Fame game, the Bears do get an extra preseason game although they are now one less than the other teams in the official NFL.
Washington has decided to search for some stability on the QB position after the team has started with as many as 13 different QBs in the starting lineup since 2017. Moreover, as the fact shows, in 2023 Sam Howell started as a quarterback for Washington and became the first starting quarterback in the team starting in all games since Kirk Cousins in 2017. Now, transitioning to this year, a lot of investment has been made in Jayden Daniels, thus the hope is he will be the starting quarterback for some time.
This must be very true because Daniels is coming to the NFL after having a great run through college. Needless to say, he spent three years at ASU then transferred to LSU to spend his last two years of playing football. There, in 2023 he would be able to secure the Heisman Trophy. Before considering the draft, there was quite a lot of discussion about Daniels, and some went to the extent of saying that he should be the first overall draft pick.
Now fans of the Washington team can be certain that they will be able to see Washington when the team plays its first preseason game.
NFL insider ‘not buying’ that Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota competing for starting QB job in Washington
The Washington team has not announced their starting quarterback implying that Marcus Mariota could get the position. But ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano was not of that opinion though.
“I do not necessarily subscribe to the notion that it is a battle between second overall pick Jayden Daniels and the former No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota, not even the people I interact with concerning this,” Graziano said. “I believe that Daniels enters the season as a starting quarterback assuming all the other team’s players are fit. The only query mark over the Washington team is their protection for him – the offensive line. ”
